Mayors Wellness Committee
Old Tappan is proud to be part of the Mayors Wellness Campaign. The MWC is a statewide community health initiative that provides evidence-based tools and strategies for mayors and community leaders to help their residents achieve healthier lifestyles and to improve overall health and wellness in their communities. The New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute has been leading the Mayors Wellness Campaign in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities since 2006. The campaign includes over 400 participating communities, and is growing.
Our goal is to improve the health and wellness of our community, working to implement a comprehensive program of outreach, education and technical assistance to promote health and wellness for our residents. The need to focus on these health components became even more clear as our community came out of the global COVID health pandemic; many people of all ages struggled with physical and mental issues from isolation, possible job loss, lack of much-needed routine and other factors.
The MWC identifies community health and wellness needs, sets health and wellness goals and develops programming to help achieve these goals.
The Borough of Old Tappan was named a 2023 Healthy Town to Watch. See the Quality Institute's Press Release.
