THE BLACK POSTER PROJECT: RAISING AWARENESS THROUGH LIVES LOST TO ADDICTION
THE BLACK POSTER PROJECT is a labor of love created by Dee Gillen after the loss of her son, Scott, to a heroin/fentanyl overdose at age 27 in 2015. It began with a simple social media post just prior to Overdose Awareness Day 2019. Those who wanted their loved one featured in the Project simply sent their information — an image and the dates. In a few short months, this silent memorial grew to include over 200 Awareness Posters, which sadly, continues to grow to this day.THE BLACK POSTER PROJECT travels to various local area events — sometimes including all of the posters — other times, a small sample.Attendees are invited to look at their faces, look into their eyes, read a message — as each will ‘speak back’. Perhaps these faces are familiar? Undoubtedly people ask themselves, “How this could have happened to this baseball player, this musician, this father, this mother?” Rest assured, the bereaved families ask themselves the same questions.Learn more about the Black Poster Project here.
There is no cost to have your loved one included in THE BLACK POSTER PROJECT, please download and submit the Consent Form or call Dee Gillen at 201.906.9055.
